Before you begin you need to install share into your autoexec.bat with the following parameters:
Share /L:500 /F:5100
If you have this currently installed and the parameter values are greater than the amounts specified do not reduce them to match those specified above.
This is still a beta program. Make backup copies of your work frequently.
To install, unzip all four zip files into the directory of your choice. Recommend: c:\wingen. Create a data directory under that to hold your data files. Recommend: c:\wingen\data. **** In preferences (press F6) you can specify the
data directory of your choice for the program's data files.
If you have any problems with loading some of the files it might mean that you have other "older" versions of the *.vbx files stored in your c:\windows\system directory. If this is the case replace them with the "newer" enhanced *.vbxs provided with Win Gen. You should be careful to examine the dates and times of creation of these files and the file sizes.
When the icons are placed on the desktop for the first time they will all receive the same icon position, so you'll need to pick them up and move them to where you want them, or do an arrange icons from the windows menu.
After loading each form for the first time each form will need to be resized to your tastes. Subsequent loads of these forms will retain their positions.
The help topic that appears when you first load the program will only be displayed the first time you run Win Gen.
The help file is a work in progress and should be taken with a grain of salt. Mose of the topics are still crudely written.
Hint: Try clicking the right mouse button on everything.

Those using screens with a 640x480 and less resolution should turn off all status bars, and tool bars, etc. They're nice, but almost everything is available from a popup menu.
If you have serious questions about the program or bugs look in the known problems section of the help file, I may be aware of them and working on solutions for them.
I recommend that you use this program with 800x600 or greater resolution. It look great at 1024x768 on a 17" monitor. It even looks great at a resolution of 1024x768 on a 14" monitor.
Setup you data directory with the preferences dialog right away. That'll make life easier.
A SPECIAL NOTE
Win Gen is still not officially released. Maybe that's why no one has registered the program with me. Because of this I have felt sure enough about modifying the data structure slightly by deleting two indexes and creating one and correcting another. The struct.cnf should be replaced by the one in this update archive file. You can identify the index changes and modify your existing files with the Visdata.exe program provided with Win Gen. If you elect not to change the indexes as indicated in this struct.cnf file you will not be able to use your data files. Changing the data files is pretty easy.
Updating the data files is accomplished by loading the Visdata.exe program, opening the data file you need modified and opening the appropriate table. The two tables that need to have their indexes modified are: Surnames and Other Spouses. You can select the Surnames table by clicking on it once (not a double click) and then clicking on the design button. You will then need to point at the "Names" index and delete it. Then you'll need to click on the "Spouses" index and delete it. Then you'll need to add an index. The index name should be spelled exactly as "Parents Reference Numbers" (without the quotes). The fields that need to be indexed are: FatherRefNo and MotherRefNo. The index should not be unique nor should it be set to primary so deselect them. You'll need to make sure that when selecting the fields you select the "FatherRefNo" first and then select the "MotherRefNo". To deselect these Unique and Primary options simply click on their check box until they become deselected (or unchecked). Once that is done close out the two dialog boxes and go back to the listing of tables. You'll then need to select the "Other Spouses" table and then select the design button. You'll then need to delete the "Other Spouses" index and recreate it. The "Other Spouses" index was improperly set to index the reference number of the spouse and should be indexed on the "RefNumber" field. Delete the index just as you did in the "Surnames" table and recreate it using the same index name "Other Spouses". After giving it a name you need to deselect the Unique and Primary options and you'll need to index on the "RefNumber" field only. When that is done close out these dialog boxes and then close out the data file.
ALTERNATIVELY, you can simply start a new file. The struct.cnf file contains the updated indexes.
